I was out of college a few years though. Decided to finally follow my dream. Enrolled in a flight school in NH. Got through my private, started work on my instrument and 9-11 happened. Several instructors at the school were hired on by Continental Express with around 800 hours....I was stoked....roughly 2 years in I would have a great chance at living my dream.
As you decided, I too hedged my bet and quit training. The industry is just a tough nut to crack now....tougher than before. I could not justify spending around $40-$50K to get through training and make $25K a year (if I was lucky) instructing for who knows how many years.
I always get the same flutter watching jets come and go out of Boston Logan or Newark International when I'm driving down 95 going to visit the family in Virginia.
