I figure it's worth it to have it checked since it's pretty easy at this point in the process. Better to have it checked and be told "Okay" than not have it checked and have to do the job again. (I had my head machined when I did my head gasket about 18 months ago. I figured it was worth the $65 to KNOW that it was perfect when I was reassembling the engine.)
Your block should be fine, but make sure it's clean when you put the new gasket on. Others will probably have comments as well.
