In C&D's defense, the criteria for nomination is that the vehicle must be new or substantially revised or have been a previous ten best winner. This keeps them from looking at the same car as last year that did not make the grade. I would expect that in January 2006 you will see the 9-3 Aero/Sport Combi and 9-5 both nominated, though clearly unlikely to win based on the review you referred to.

I don't know about balance in car evaluation, but it is one of the better written car rags (as opposed to say Motor Trend), even if they aren't particular fans of Saab's current offering. The Saab 9000 Turbo was a 10 best when it was introduced in late 80's. I would love to see the next 9-5 in the same company. FWIW
