buying a foreign US car is always risky

I consider a foreign US car a low volume foreign car sold in the US under a US name. Examples include Mercury Capri, Merkur Scorpio, Merkur XR4Ti, Pontiac GTO, Opel Kadett at Buick dealers, etc. The 9-2X almost qualifies (except SAAB is not a traditional US name).
These kind of cars are always suspect of being yanked. True, the car you buy will be supported for a couple of years. However, if you want to drive the car for 15 years, it's not as nice to have the car discontinued and not sold in the US.
If the 9-2X sold well, I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota and GM would market the car for 2007 and 2008 and maybe a year or two longer. However, since the 9-2X isn't selling well, I would expect either an early death or just plodding along until there is some change to the WRX, at which time, the 9-2X dies.
