May my 1995 9k Aero Rest in Pieces...

On the way back from Sweedish Car day I was depositing some friends from Maine on to 93 North. I was less than half a mile from my exit in Medford in the second inside lane out of 4. My friends were behind me and there was a Ford Explorer in the fast lane about 15 to 20 car lengths ahead.
The road was otherwise wide open in front of me.
I was doing about 70-75 when a cargo/roof rack bar flew off the Ford and slid to a dead stop in my lane. I tried to avoid it but that was a no go. As soon as I hit the part my car lost control!!!!!!!!!!!
I went across 2 lanes and head on into the middle concrete barrier at at least 60+, the impact spun the rear back into the barrier and then I rolled to a stop across the 2 right travel lanes. My friend Josh who was behind me said my car got air born after the first hit.

After the first impact the car's safety features worked flawlessly. The seat belts ratcheted me back and locked as the airbags both deployed. After this my recollections were by feel & sound rather than sight what with a face full of airbags (they glanced rather than hit me thankfully).

My car gave its life for me. I walked away and save for a bruised shoulder and a pain on the bottom of my right foot I feel fine. No blood no scars no broken bones. Pictures of the carnage are being developed and I will post them soon.

I am so so sad about the loss. I spent the better part of 5 months looking for a car outside the rust belt. Flew down to Texas to look her over and was getting to the point of considering upgrades after taking care of all the various wear and tear things over the past year. Further it was my Saab gift to my adult self. I had owned an old 900 about 10 years ago which got rear ended. At the time my wife and I were so poor we couldn't justify another Saab. We will see but, it is going to be a while before I gather enough loot to jump back in with both feet.

To those Saab friends who went through this with me I thank you for being there, for "protecting" me, and for all your help. Like the community here and those met through all the Saab gatherings/event this past year I have only met good people and you are the BEST.
