The more I think of it, the more I think that putting Spenchian at the head of Saab demonstrates GM's commitment to turning the brand around. After what he did for Cadillac, they must think highly of this man and would not waste him on something they don't believe in. No doubt that steering out of the red will help to make a case... The restructuring of GM Europe is already paying dividends. As far as Saab is concerned, the fact that the 9-6x was thought to look to much like the B9 is very encouraging as to the direction they want to take. As most of you I am sure, I couldn't be more pleased by the last sentence. «Common platforms will be utilized, Spenchian says, but the Saab design center to be built in Trollhatten, Sweden, will ensure that distinctive brand traits are preserved. This includes turbocharged engines. "That's a Saab equity," he says.»
In hindsight, a lot of what Bob Lutz was saying a while back in an interview with the New York Times which I posted on this BB echoes Spenchians views, which is also reassuring. I think the timing could not be any better for a dose of optimism. BTW, just saw the 9-3 SC in the flesh and it's a knockoff.
