Since I am juggling this very issue right now.....
I run my '90 spg 90 some miles a day, do all my own work, etc. But as others have said that can put a serious dent into the spare time pool. My wife also dives an older car: '89 Jag vdp but with much lower milage, which is not only starting to eat time in a major way, is very expensive , parts-wise. So.

January or so the Jag goes, but; she wants another one. Doing some research & talking w owners of newer models, I'm considering a 2001 xj8L. Now this thing has a small v8 in it, but does get reasonable milage for what it is; ~ 21mpg, and she drives less than 10k yearly. The thing will also have a couple of years of factory warranty, and an available extended $$.
They also depreciated faster than a falling rock; 80 grand new, we can get a georgeous black on black w 35k on it for around $20k, maybe less if cash. So I'll go with that for her.

why?
very nice car for the money, and warranty so I don't have to muck with it anymore.

For me?
Don't know yet.
I do a lot more miles so fuel milage is more of a concern.I still want the fun that comes w performance, but I'd also like Euro and warranty. And it must have the cargo capacity of the c900.
