Read The Economist every week! or listen to CBC or NPR Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Thu, 17 Nov 2005 13:50:24 In Reply to: vocabulary/speech enhancement, SaabSpeed, Wed, 16 Nov 2005 11:09:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Not to be facetious, there is no better publication, covering such a wide variety of current events, that is so well edited and typically filled with tough words.
Cost per year, about 160 Cdn.
I started reading it about twenty years ago, at work, to bring myself up to speed on current events and the business world. No regrets. I still try and read most of it, it my young twin sons let me have time.
Second suggestion - listen to National Public Radio, American Public Radio, or if you can, CBC Radio One. Diction is always important, and they have sound and word editors scouring the scripts.
I do this for my second language, which is French. I listen to SRC radio, and watcht the SRC TV news in the evening. Keeps both the English and French sides of my engineering brain working.
The more you listen, the more you will be able to mimic the diction. Of course, you may end up with a Canadian accent, like Peter Jennings; Americans generally think I am from the Midwest, while English think I am from the Far West!
Cheers,
