In the first two years of having my drivers license (this is 10 years go now..) I was pulled over over 20 times, and recieved two reckless driving violations, three speeding tickets, and two "excessive speed" violations.
My mother would'nt add me to her insurance policy (duh..) and before you know it my insurance (withOUT collision) was $4,000 per year. I couldn't keep that up so I slowed down eventually... Now my insurance is only $800 per year with collision :)
I think kids who drive fast are going to drive fast, it is addicting and the thrill of it is there. It is very dangerous, though, and you don't realize it that age, I didn't. I rolled my mom's car into the forest three weeks after getting licensed because I slid around a corner in the rain in a 25mph zone going 65. Stupid, really, I could have died there. Thank god I was wearing a seat belt.
How is your kid otherwise? I find people who have a tendancy for extreme sports like me (skydiving, mountain biking, paragliding, skiing..) tend to drive much faster.
let him get a few ticket and pay his lawyer fees... don't make excuses for him, and he will take responsibility for it. And don't pay for his insurance ;)
