We bought a house with an in-ground pool. We weren't looking for a house with a pool, but the house we found had a pool. There was no fence around it (!!) and I considered filling it in, paving over the top, and putting in a basketball hoop. Most days I wish that I had done that. The neighborhood association has a perfactly good pool that we pay to support.
We do use the pool several times a year for BBQs and team parties and so forth, and that is nice, but I'm not sure it's worth the hundreds of dollars annually in chemicals, hundreds of dollars annually in water, hundreds of dollars annually in electricity to run the filter, and hundreds of dollars for gas every time we heat it up for a team party. You should understand that your debt service is just the beginning of your operating expense!
