The color part of the badge is a decal, maybe clear coating would make the decals last longer. To remove the hood badge you have to use a small screw driver - well padded with a good rag to avoid damaging the paint. The hood badge is held on by two prongs which clip into nylon sockets in the hood and has to be pryed off. To remove the rear badge, which is held on with trim adhesive tape, carefully heat it with a hair drier ( some have said a heat gun, which may be too hot, IMO - a hair drier works) and carefully pry the badge off with a plastic putty knife, also using a rag to avoid any paint scratching.
I agree - it would've been nice if SAAB had made these emblems with paint rather than decals. New ones aren't cheap and some are becoming obsolete.
