I have an overly simplistic view of it though. It's a privilege to drive. You pay for that privilege with all your car cost including gas. If our US gas costs went up to the cost of petrol in many European countries, I wouldn't change my driving habits one bit. However, I can see a very valid point in that it puts a real squeeze on poorer folks who tend to have to live where they can afford to which is often quite a distance from where they work for relatively lower wages, so I guess my own opinion is worthless in the end...
