On my lot if I were to resell your 9000 I might ask $2,995 and take $2,500. That's after giving $500-1,000 in trade. For a lot of folks that doesn't make much sense as they have pumped almost that much money into the car in relatively normal maintenances and fixes, but that's just kinda' the territory for older high line cars. For that kind of money there's a lot of cars that are newer and less expensive to repair to compete with.
Don't let me discourage you. My definition of fair doesn't have to agree with your definition of fair. I dunno' about paying someone $340 for an appraisal though, but I do think you have a good chance of guilting the insurance company into raising their offer.
