Well it is already Friday; do you believe you will see him next week and he will finish? If so I don't understand immediate question. You probably won't get it done any faster going another route and then you have some other issues that are created too. Might want to get a commitment for day he will come and finish without being pushy.
I don't know the rest of the story but if the problem is bigger then you might have to look at something else. Don't feel I can really give any useful advice on how to handle it but just be prepared for a nasty mess. Although if the work done thus far is OK it might not be that bad. Unless your concerned about him doing the work should probably give him one more change to finish it.
