Ethanol and lawn mowers Posted by Gene N [Email] (#1094) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gene N) on Sun, 16 Jul 2006 15:45:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Recently, our area (Northern Virginia) switched from MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether) to ethanol as a oxygenating agent. I've noticed slightly less gas mileage, but, other than that, I have not had any other problems on my Saab yet. However, on my 7-year old Honda lawnmower, I've had lot of trouble starting it, and today, it would run at all. I just got finished cleaning the fuel bowl of the carburetor, and it was full of what looked like thin apple jelly. I realized that this was after three or four tankfulls of the reformulated gasoline, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Problem with ethanol, or just a bad batch of gas? The gas was from the local Exxon, and has not been any problem in my four cars.
