Hello fellow Saabers! I haven't posted in quite a while... I'm hoping some of you may be able to lend some advice.
I currently work in a 100% commission based job (and have worked on 100% commission for the past 7 years). I've done well for myself as a financial advisor over the years, however at this point in my life I am really not "feeling" this job anymore. I started with it sort of by accident after college (Psychology major) and now I just seem to have lost the desire to continue on with this line of work. I am 30 years old and plan on proposing to my girlfriend soon. Eventually, we'll live together and start a family together. However, I would like a source of stable income before I propose. My girlfriend and I have talked about this and feel that a stable income is best for our future livelihood.
The problem that I am having is that, after doing the Monster and Careerbuilder thing, the only offers that I am getting are for more sales jobs!! It's very frustrating when all I want to do is get out of commission sales. I'm wondering if anyone out there has made a transition from sales into something more stable (i.e.: set salary)? Ideally, I would want to continue with something financially related since I do have experience in the field. It's tough though since the only thing on my resume highlights my sales accomplishments. I don't want to leave out those accomplishments, yet I may have to in order to shift focus. I can't afford to start from scratch in another field altogether as I do have a mortgage, bills, etc.
Any advice that you all could offer would be appreciated!!
Thanks!!!
Tom
