Americans tend to be overweight. Often, this accompanies loss of fine motor control or unwillingness to pay attention to achieve fine motor control. This means that you push the door hard because if you guide it, you have to shift your center of gravity (and all that weight) pass the body's midline.
Even within the US, there are pockets of obesity. A recent study showed that 10 of the fattest 12 states were southern states. I found that I got more dents in the south than in other parts of the U.S.
Americans are not entirely stupid but the low sales of Saabs proves this. However, I read yesterday that the city with the most educated people were Seattle, followed by San Francisco. There are more Saabs there than in many US cities.
