When we moved into our house (12 yrs ago!) We had to paint the entire place, including 'finished' garage. Fortunately, my wife likes white, and we were able to use a 'satin' or linen finish for the entire walls, woodwork, and ceilings. We painted our 3000+ sq ft in 2 wks with the help of friends. There was lots of patching, the entire painted surface was sanded to take old latex bumps off, then washed with TSP.
The main paint distributor was a Paint Stick. I believe that Wagner has since bought the company, so may find it as Wagner Paint Stick. It is essentially a big syringe that sucks up a quart or so of paint, then you push it out as needed, when you roll it onto the walls or ceilings. It is long enough to reach an 8ft ceiling without a ladder for me.
This was a tremendous time savor for me! I think I tallied up 35gals applied in those two weeks. The roller spent 95% of the time putting paint on the walls, and got really close into the corners. My experience with roller/tray is less than 50% of time on the wall.
I actually painted for less than a week, but put in 18hr days painting. When I switched from one white to another, I painted a closet interior until the new paint came through. Then I paint for a day or so with one color. When I took a break for sleep or run to the paint store, I'd toss a wet washcloth into a plastic grocery bag and tie it tight.
I never cleaned the Paint Stick until I was done with the job. It was a lot of work to get it all cleaned out, and in retrospect, I could have just tossed it for the $35 or so invested. It had served it's purpose! However the next Summer I painted all of the overhangs outside by using the paint stick as an applicator, and then brushing it in. So I'm still using it, and hoping that my wife does not see a need to repaint this house for a few more years.
By the way, the original roller did the whole job of painting and delivering the 35 gallons. It is good quality.
And no, I am not affiliated with Paint Stick or any other painting business. Just real delighted to plow through the job so quickly.
