I'm curious how YouTube expects to use the "we're the carrier" argument given what's happened recently with various file sharing networks. Weird.
Regardless, Google is swimming in money, and their plan is to own all the content on the internet. They give you 10g of space for email, so they own all your email. They give you free word processing and spreadsheets, so they own all your documents. They have video. and YouTube, so they own all the video. These guys - as cool as they seem - are on an empire-building mission. It scares the crap out of me, no matter how cool it is. Microsoft wants to run your computer, but so what, Ford wants to run your car. What scares me is when Google has control of all my data. Ford certainly doesn't care what happens inside my car...
It's all very brilliant. If they own all the content, you'll have to come see them sooner or later. Much better potential positioning than other computer-related companies, and for the first time since CompuServe, they appear to have the right combination of stuff to realize their goal.
