In Chicagoland no one needs the handling limits of any state of the art automobile. The roads are straight and congested. The luxury and prestige of the nameplate sell far more models here. Given the recent reliability woes of MB, it is obvious that this is not a key to their success around here either.
I do agree that adding size, weight, and the sloppy handling of traditional American luxury cars would add nothing good to a Saab. But surely there is room for traditional sized Cadillacs and smaller, more fuel efficient but equally luxurious Saabs in the GM world. Luxury has to do with features, materials and dealer service, and can be done on a Saab.
