I had an '86 900 that was definitely cabled to the front (long story about snow chains on that car not printed here) and my next car was a '94 900SE that was cabled to the rear. The theory was that since front brakes did the majority of the work cabling the fronts was better in an emergency. I agree with that decision. But many US drivers could not or world not adapt to the US mfr standard that parking brakes worked on the rear wheels so Saab/GM went along for the ride. Pun intended.
