Turn off SSID Broadcast - Use hardware ID ;-) Posted by Scott Paterson [Email] (#13) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Scott Paterson) on Sun, 7 Jan 2007 21:09:28 In Reply to: How to stop my 'hood from using wireless connection, Sam, Sun, 7 Jan 2007 16:24:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I go one step further. I turn off SSID broadcast so you have to know the name of the network to connect to... It won't show up automatically in any wifi menu selections. You have to type it in. Secondly, I use a pre-populated list a hardware addresses so only those pre-approved hardware addresses are allowed to send data through my wifi router. Basically, my wife's computer, my computer, the wifi web cam, and the wifi mp3 player. Anyone that manages to get the name of the network still gets stopped because they don't have a pre-authenticated hardware address.
I know, it's a lot easier to just turn on WEP, so that's also what I suggest you do!
