Weirdness and a warning about an online UNIX class...

...So I was looking through Craig heads list and I saw an advert for free UNIX online classes from a guy who calls himself Kartik Vashishta. He has taken his screen name from traditional East Indian teachings and touts his roots in his autobiographical website.
Seemed cool, and I was interested and I EMailed him.
His course requires dual booting one's hard drive and setting up a 'vbrun' (? maybe I am off here or misquoting)) environment. There were detailed instructions on how to fiddle with my root directories and also set up a dual boot system and also add 6 gig of information to my system.
I was concerned and Emailed back stating that I am a physician and that my computer and its information is invaluable and irreplaceable to me. I asked him to confirm there was no spyware or botware or malware.
This is when it got weird... He said he did not know of any malware on the installation dual boot information, but he "makes no guarantees".
I Emailed back and statd that I don't want to be rude or offend but I needed to ask what that meant because he stated that he created the course. He got curt, almost hostile. His behavior was certainly nothing like the behavior and lifestyles touted by his website.
I of course have not pursued the online course, but I am left wondering. Was this a scam to turn my system into a bot?
