thousands of Microsoft programmers, managers, and head technologist were nuts.

#1 daughter crashed the disk drive on her 5 year old P4 1.8GHz machine. Machine wouldn't load, no go on boot sector, still no go after trying various things. Data files on disk are still readable so I off loaded all those to a separate drive. It's one of those early HP computers that didn't have recovery disks and when the disk decides to go, you're out of luck kind of thing. Just like any good dad, I moved all her files, songs and all to my computer and gave my computer (a simple overclocked AMD64 Venice 3200+) to her as I have a laptop as well.

I'm getting too old to do the clone, recovery, etc... Instead of spending more time to try to revive her computer I went to the nearest usual big retailer and picked up a replacement for myself.

Hello Vista, what on earth is this thing ? I'm a cheap skate, I don't get any 3rd party firewall to run in Vista, all the nice tweak programs for XP don't exactly carryover to Vista. The idiot proof features are ANNOYING as hell. I picked up an Acer AMD64X2 4400 with 2G of RAM, hardware looks reasonable for the price but I had a hard time with Vista.

Yes, Vista has loads of features and they really don't have to be that complicated. Hey Microsoft, you want your OS to be simple and easy to use and not having users to learn new things just to go back to what XP can do. At least XP has features that I can revert to old Windows 98 look and feel. In Vista, you can go back to Windows Classic look but not Windows XP, why ? Is it taking up too much disk and RAM space already ?

Oh, Microsoft, where are you on Zune ? How is it working out ? Haven't heard much about it lately.

Keep this up, I may just as well donate all five of my Windows machines and go get all spanking new Macs that can also run Windows. Or maybe if I wake up geeky one morning, reload all my Windows with Linux and Open Office etc...

So I have to decide to send the Acer with Vista back or pay an extra $200 for a copy of XP Home Edition.

Hey fellow geeky Saabers, what would you do ?
