Some of you may remember my whiny request for advice about a few scratches on my beloved 2002 9-3 SE (steel grey) last week. Well I decided to get the body work done, and was very excited about it.

I took my car to a place that came very highly recommended, both from personal friends and from Yelp.com. It is literally two blocks from my house so it seemed like it would all be perfect.

Well I picked the car up on Wednesday at 5PM (after dropping it off on Monday morning at 7:00AM - they had the car for three full days) and the scratches are gone... but the rest of the car is a joke.

Here's the horror:

1) They told me when I was inspecting the work (in a dimly lit garage) that they "didn't have time to polish the paintwork" and they asked me to "please bring back the car in a few weeks so we can polish it." He insisted that this would actually be better for the paint because it would be polished after it had fully dried and cured. Not completely horrendous, but annoying. It gets worse:

2) The entire interior was completely covered (and I mean COVERED) with a film of dust, presumably from the sanding process. The kind of dust you can draw pictures and write in by running your finger through it. How it got INSIDE the car is beyond me. It took half an hour to clean it up. Also, the interior reeks of auto paint. I have had other body work done before and have not been left with residual odors inside the car.

3) They managed to spray steel grey metallic paint INSIDE THE CAR onto the part of the driver's dashboard, above the far left air conditioning vent. Obviously this is permanent. Yes, to be clear, they painted the dashboard. THEY PAINTED THE DASHBOARD. SUPER.

4) They also managed to spray two quarter-sized splotches of paint onto the driver's window. Classy. This may actually rub off but it's still indicative of poor workmanship.

5) The chrome "SE" badge on the side panel above the side-mounted blinker was reaffixed completely askew, and with the "S" upside down. NICE, guys.

I have had body work done on two other Saabs at other body shops and have never had to deal with this kind of ridiculous unprofessionalism. I paid exactly $1,078.46 for this. Thank god I put it on my American Express card - they might be able to help me.

So, please advise. Am I being picky? Or is this as obscene as I think it is? Do I go back there tomorrow and let 'em have it, or do I wait until I have to go back in a few weeks to have the paint "polished" after it has "cured"? I have already cleaned the inside of the car so I can't show them all the dust, but I can tell them about it. All the other problems are clearly visible.

Please help. Thanks all.
