I switched to Macs about 3.5 years ago and won't go back to PCs without a fight. They're easier to use and just a more elegant operating system. However:
1. They're still computers. All they know is if a switch is on or off, so you can still find yourself calling Tech Support because it's acting up. Apple's tech support is really, really, good, though. Get the extended warranty (Apple Care, I think it's called) because:
2. There'll be a learning curve. It's easier to use, but right now you're used to windows. There'll be a little bit of time while you learn the system. During this time, I wonked up my computer due to me screwing around with it (I'm an engineer and can't help myself with such things. It's in the engineer gene, I think).
3. Unless you need the portability, desktops give better performance for less money. I think the Mac Mini is due for an upgrade next month (just a guess on my part), so you might want to wait, or the iMac is sweet. The PowerMac could be overkill, but should last you a while, and is upgradable (the biggest complaint I have is they have no low-end tower, where you can upgrade video cards, etc)
4. They are more secure than Windows (the OS is more secure, it's not just because they're less of a target), but you should still use protection (so to speak). I don't use anti-virus software, but I do use the built-in firewall and there are a few other things to do for security.
So, in short, Macs are better, but don't expect it to be 100% trouble free.
