If one is truly innocent, there is honor in fighting. However, chances are you'll fail - the system is stacked against you.
If one is guilty, the suggestion is to (1) minimize the impact of the punishment, and (2) Go forth and Sin No more. I happen to think that the punishment for relatively minor speeding infractions is pretty high - the insurance impact is severe. Hey, if the guy is doing 95, nail his butt. If he's keeping up with traffic and gets caught in a revenue-producing speed trap, then minimize the impact.
The idea of the fine is to act as a deterrent. If the pain and hassle of trying to reduce the fine acts as a deterrent, isn't that good enough?
