Even my M3 only 15K miles...10W60! castrol syntec.
As a lifemember amsoil dealer I was skeptical on the S54 engine (333hp at 8Krpm, rpm limiter cuts in at 8100) but after oil analyses I'm ok with the long changes. If amsoil made a 10W60 I'd use it, but no.
I've used amsoil 15W-45 marine 4stroke/diesel oil on all the other cars, a saab 900T, volvo 740T, and audi V8 4.2liter...the turbos at 10K miles and the audi at 8500-9000miles (audi has service reminder).
I'm surprised all new cars don't use synthetic from the factory...most high performance cars do.
Part of it is CAFE...federal law says you can't use synthetic lubes just to gain mileage (hint hint) to achieve CAFE but if your engineers argue synthetic is necessary for extended maintenance intervals it's perfectly legit to use the lubes and count the mileage gain. Works for transmissions, differentials, and transfer cases, power steering too.
