I can definitely agree that FM modulation and transmission is not a very good connection for quality audio. I've tried this before on an mp3 music changer and just ended taking it out.
I've since ended up getting a new Stereo Bluetooth Hands Free Telephone kit that I also stream music via Bluetooth from my iPod with an adapter. This works great, but obviously not a solution for you.
The one thing I could suggest (depending on the year/model of your car), is to get an AudioTroll which just went back on sale. This, if you haven't heard, makes for a direct connection for an iPod or any mp3 device via the stock head unit's CD changer port. Since it can be used for any mp3 player, there is a 3.5 jack for devices since the iPod is the only one with it's proprietary port. You could probably use this effectively for connecting to your SIRIUS unit. You obviously won't be utilizing the unit to it's fullest extent, but, it is a direct connection to your stereo. I believe they're $179+ S&H. Still less then a decent head unit.
Just food for thought, I hope this helps!
