I just had to pass this one around - long story short, my father in law bought a 1985 Mazda Rx-7 (first generation) in 1986, barely broken in. He took meticulous care of it for years, then let his son drive it starting around 2000. Needless to say, the developed 'slight rust problems' (read: gaping holes) over the next few years. Finally, I made the offhand comment that I'd love to have one, and would restore it if given the chance - father in law said really? It's yours.
Anyway, I've been up to my eyeballs in rust for the last few weeks, but finally making progress on new panels and replacing parts. I take off the drivers door panel bc I knew the window didn't work. What do I find? A nice wooden frame of pressure treated 2x4's screwed into the sheetmetal of the inside door skin with 2 1/4 deck screws. 6 of them. Anyway, I had a good laugh - who knows what else I'll find! Anyone else have any crazy finds while working on a car?
