You local police will typically have a few trained officers to either check your install or to do it for you.
This is well worth it. I did the infant seat install on our old Corolla when my oldest son was born, and the police officer re-did it about 1000x better than I had managed to.
After several cars, a second kid, and a variety of car seats I can now install seats well in our Saab and Honda, but if a new car came along I'd still have the police do the 1st install for me.
Oh, and baby slings and Bjorns are way comfier for toting little ones than those big awkward seats. I could never fathom why people carry their babies around malls and such in them.
