They do sound surprisingly good for their size, but I consider them to be "transportable speakers" rather than true outdoor speakers. The difference being that they are not weather proof and should be protected from excess sunlight too. Each speaker requires 4 D-cell batteries, but they are subject to weird signal interferrences. I finally determined the most annoying interferrence comes from our home PC!
We use the speakers in our slab-on-grade family room ocassionally (the stereo is in the living room) but discovered we can't use them if the PC is ON.
