Back in the '60s my father worked with a guy who had in a big Ford wagon with studded tires. Coming back from skiing one weekend he was running about 90-100 mph and heard this clattering rattle in his rear end. He got out and found the studs were coming out of the tires. Probably won't work that way today, but it's an amusing story.
Seriously, though, the studs are put in with a pneumatic stud gun. Fair bit of force is involved. Not sure you could pull them out with a hand tool. Go ask at a tire place and see what they say.
