Most professional pilots, especially ones with his background and training, would look at it that way. I know a couple fairly senior airline pilots and that's how they'd react.
There was also a certain amount of luck involved and he had a limited number of options available. In pilot training you learn to look for a place to put the plane down if you have to. He didn't have the luxury of returning to LGA, so he picked another option. It was a clear day, the winds were right, the river wasn't too rough and he brought it down. Any number of variables could have changed the "luck factor" and brought different results.
