This is a very different set of problems than I had considered. One of the things that comes to mind is UV vulnerability of technora/dyneema type rope. Seems to me that from my sailing background that these get weaker and can degrade substantially. This stuff is also expensive, and for these purposes I'd think cheap polyester may be good. Try John at knotandrope.com and tell him I sent ya. He knows his stuff pretty well, and can even supply you if needed.
What about sympathetic vibration? Wouldn't want to see a Verrazano Vibe get cooking, and rope may make it easier in an offshore environ.
The knots I suggested are very temporary. Are these knots vulnerable to vandalism? Will they need to be adjusted regularly? May make sense to do the knot, then glue it together. That takes away the slippage problem. Talk to John, he's a creative guy.
