CNN.com is reporting a CNN Money story about GM and Chrysler needing billions more.
Everything is rumor but GM hopes to sell or spin off Saturn by 2011 and get the Swedish government to hold on to Saab until a buyer can be found.
The Saturn story is sad because the dealer network is consider good for GM. There is some satisfaction among some loyal customers.
Saab's fate is odd. I would think that Saab would be a re-badged Opel but getting rid of Saab is a viable option. What that would probably mean is that the new owner would need to spend a lot very fast to develop a 9-3 replacement, especially if GM will not sell the platform for the new 2011 Opel to the new owners. This could mean that the current 9-3 has to be nursed until model year 2015. Good thing AWD was developed as it was once proposed that it be delayed until the new 2011 model/platform comes out.
It's too uncertain to speculate now but I wish Saab the best and hope that the new 9-3 replacement is a good car. I would prefer not to have to buy an Audi, VW, Volvo, Acura, Subaru, Honda, etc. In fact, when I bought the 9-3, I was even considering the Dodge Magnum (big station wagon) but crossed it off the list!
