Worse case: If you cut the wires and cause a few shorts in the process...you could blow fuse and cause your radio system to stop working. Ideally, it would be better to trace the wires and unplug the connector at the end.
Or, an alternative: To avoid the potential problems I referred to above, do the following.
1) Turn off the car.
2) Cut and tape each wire individually.
3) When you are all done cutting and taping the wires, bundle them together and wrap some duct tape or equivalent around the package of wires and secure them under the carpet.
