I've done most of the work on the Saabs, VWs and Volvos I've owned over the past 40 years. I've come to realize, as one of my indy techs says, "They're all cars, and work pretty much the same way." Some are easier or harder to work on, but that's life in any field. If you want to make a living working on cars you might be better off looking at all the options, not just those for Saabs, which, being honest, are not a growing line of cars.

To get a job as a tech you either work into it gradually by working in a dealer or indy shop, or go to a trade school where you get the hands-on training. This can be pretty important these days due to the electronic complexity of modern vehicles. Stuff like belts, brakes and exhausts are the mechanical repairs: that's general repair and is somewhat generic stuff. The tricky (and more valuable) work is tied to diagnosis of electronic and computer systems, and really requires some specific training, often by make/model to learn thoroughly. You can learn on the job or in a school.

If you are willing to do some more formal education, check your local trade schools. Some have courses that are sponsored in part by companies like Honda or Toyota, are geared to train dealership techs, and provide job placement assistance when you graduate.

I know they aren't Saabs (nothing is!!) but there are a lot of them out there and your chances for making a living as a tech are much better.
