BMW does the exact same thing: the less expensive cars have stripped interiors and equipment level compared to their more expensive cars. Go compare a 3 series vs. a 7 series yourself. The BMW Mini's even stripped out the RWD and went for FWD to save production cost. Same deal with Honda and Toyota. Don't tell me you you see the Fit equipped the same as an RL, or the Corolla the same as LS. They just move all the price points higher. Price points and incentive for customers to move up price points are basics to marketting. Every producer does that (well, except for Henry Ford, who famously said, you can have any color you like, so long as it is black; that model didn't work very well, to put it mildly).
If GM tried to price its cars at BMW's price points, and has only 2% of the market, it would long have been bankrupt. It's bankrupt now because market share dropped below 20%.
Sure, it takes two sides to have a deal, remember that the next time you are robbed at gun point, and remember that the next time your kids are kidnapped. GM has not been a bona fide private company since the 1930's, when government refused to enforce property rights when union workers took over other people's property.
