...I'm not sure I understand the excitement of Koenigsegg buying SAAB, from a business/brand viability perspective? Sure, the brand will be back in Nordic hands. Yes, Koenigsegg makes ridiculously amazing custom vehicles. And "Renco" and "Merbanco" are names that few of us ever knew before this discussion - it's hard to get excited about them, I know.
Call me a skeptic, but I just don't see how Koenigsegg = long term success for SAAB, particularly in the United States. All reports I have read describe Koenigsegg as "tiny" - a niche player, with a full-time staff of 45 and annual production of 15-20 supercars.
This is clearly less about the Koenigsegg brand, and more about the well-heeled investors behind that brand. But nothing about these reports suggests these investors have much global reach or capacity for growth. That doesn't instill confidence in me.
I only know what I have read, and I haven't read much. I'd be asking the same questions about Renco and Merbanco if they were the leading contender.
Someone please convince me that this Koenigsegg deal would keep a steady supply of Saab innovation in my garage for years to come!
