When I investigated tankless I felt the ROI calculators on the OEM sites were inaccurate and misleading, so using electric comparison is not a surprise - but I thought the sites I went to had check boxes for gas or electric and some had rate input fields, but i cannot say for sure.
what irritated me the most was the local plumb shops that carried tankless, I investigated Rinnai and another quality brand . Both shops i contacted made dubious claims that due to new energy regualations hot water tanks were now projected to last on avg only 5 yrs. I asked why and was told that to meet the new efficiency standards extra insulation had to be added requiring the tanks to have be made with thinner walls so they would rust out sooner. Pretty sure that was completle BS . I like playing dumb and gullible to some of these idiots that enjoy misleading and deceiving people.
So I said no t(h)anks to tankless and bought a new annode rod for my 13 yr old heater. Projecting at least 7 or more years from my tanker, perhaps by then tankless will be easier to justify.
