When you lean you get a different view in the mirrors and adjusting to get the view I described is what eliminates the blind spots. But you can't eliminate the blindspots as well without the leaning process.
You will find a version of this technique that works for you and your car, as each model is different, but this really works. I do it in all our cars, have taught it to my kids (my wife doesn't like it, go figure) and use it whenever I rent cars.
