but as a computer engineer, I can tell you what I prefer: the Personal Computer (PC) or workstation with the highest throughput, the most advanced features (which is why I bought a G4 at that time) and of course, the most state of-the-art microprocessor (drool). I have a collection of personal computers and workstations (Macs, IBM's and compatibles, DEC, Silicon Graphics, Amigas, self-built etc...) and if it were possible, I'd have a couple of mainframes too. Each one of them can do the things you claim but the choices vary from a few titles for one platform, to a plethora of titles for another (read: Windows). Anybody that claims that the Mac has just as much software availiable as a "PC" is in complete denial and out of touch. Sure, you have popular titles for the Mac too, but a lot of it is poorly ported. Almost every piece of new software released is for Windows platforms but a few "also for Mac" titles pop up now and then. This goes for hardware too. Many are frustrated by the lag of Mac hardware. Don't get me started on military applications. It's a Microsoft world, unfortunately. Sorry. Mac is a great OS and in many ways superior to Windows but that's largely due to it's Unix core (which is probably why your scientist friends like it). The quality of Mac specific applications (apps not availiable for Windows) is outstanding and the developer's are very creative. I'm always impressed with Mac stuff, really. To be honest, I don't know why I'm wasting my time with this thread. I mean, I love computers, I love electronics and have since I was a kid building electronic and computer circuits using flip-flops. All computers are awesome in my eyes... I guess that makes me a nerd, geek or whatever. I don't mind though ;-) I can only say that it's a shame that Motorola/Freescale decided not to make microprocessors anymore (though they make nice microcontrollers) because Macs are now compatibles too with "Intel Inside". It's hard to beat Wintel...
