Never driven that far, but driven mostly that far with a single dog, and many times across California with one or two 50lb+ dogs. They don't seem to mind, but I've always made a point of stopping every couple hours to let them run around. Makes trips take FOREVER since you take a 20-30 minute break every three hours or so, but OTOH the drives don't seem as tedious and you do get to see more of the country along the way... We take Sammy (50lb mutt) all over the place - lots of multi-hour drives - and she loves it. Her head is out the window periodically, but often she curls up the in the back of the Suburban and sleeps. Funny thing about her is how fascinated she it with the cars behind us - she spends an extraordinary amount of time staring out the back window, especially when we put it down. FWIW, I would absolutely rather drive my dogs cross country than put them in the cargo hold of an airplane. That seems terrible to me.
