I saw an article today saying the Emerald Ash Borer has recently been discovered in Western New York. This beetle has devasted the Ash tree population in Michigan over the past 4 years of so. My neighborhood alone lost nearly 2 dozen Ash trees due to this pest with the only surviving tree in my yard.
For those of you in New York and the New England area who will have to deal with this menace in the coming seasons, I have preserved my tree with use of "Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insect Control" twice each year. This is a consumer grade insecticide that is poured on the ground surrounding the tree. Efficancy of this product has been found to be 90% against the Emerald Ash Borer
A 99% efficacy poison has been developed but it is sold only to Arborists and is injected into the tree. So far my two applications per year of the 90% soution seem to be working as well as the expensive 99% solution.
Hopefully this can help others save their beautiful trees.
