Both Carfax and Autocheck have several records for this VIN, and running it through the decoder below shows that it's a valid Saab VIN. Same as before, it comes up as a base model with the B204L (185hp) engine. Just to experiment, I tried changing some of the characters, but the decoder knew they were invalid due to the checksum digit. In your case, the 4 is the checksum that validates the VIN.

I also did some searching on used car websites to find other 9-3 convertibles for sale with the VIN listed. Apparently 7 is indeed the correct number for a convertible, so Saabnet's chart must be incorrect.

As for the appearance of the car, what "front and back covers" are you talking about? The bumpers? It would be great if you could put a picture online so we could see what you mean.

Here's a question...in the center console, are the heater/AC controls manual (knobs) or automatic (buttons with little display screen)?
