I have the Fein tool. My wife bought it for me last year to do some complicated plunge cuts in the hardwood floor of our powder room. It did a really nice job. It is a very powerful, quiet tool. It also has a super long cord, so you almost never need an extension cord. As a detail sander, it is spectacular, I used it all the time. It feels solid, german made.
My buddy has wanted one for a while, so when HF came out with their copy, I used a 20% off coupon and bought it for him for Chirstmas. In the past, I've found the HF power tools to be a good value for the money. Their buffer is a copy of a Dewalt, and it is actually really nice! Especially considering it cost under $20. (The dewalt is close to $150).
I took the HF "multimaster" out of the box when I got home and plugged it in. It is nothing like the fein too. Its smaller, noisier, has a short cord, and isn't variable speed. It does however come with more blades.
It will work. It will make plunge cuts, and cut grout. If you only needed it for one job, its worth the $40. However, Home Depot sells a Dremel brand tool for about $100 that seems to be a better value if you plan to keep it for life and use it more than a couple times.
