You should go with the newer cars. I've had a 900, three OG9-3s, 3 NG9-3s, 9-5, etc. The new cars are better handling and better performers. Reliability? It's even in my book...I might give a slight lead to the older models. One thing about the older pre-9-3SS models, the drivers footwell is quite narrow....not a lot of foot room. The older model seats are a bit too flat imho (non-sport seats). The newer cars fixed that and more. Handling-wise the newer cars can take an exit ramp with grace...very good, flat trajectory. Having said that, I've been slow to appreciate the newer styling. Despite having a 2007 9-3 Aero convertible and a 2008 9-5 wagon, I recently bought an older 2003 9-3 convertible...I just like the look. Once you drive a newer car you'll see the difference over the older models though...less cowl shake too if you're replacing your convertible. The older models were bullet proof though...
