Say GM shuts down Saab on Dec. 31. They still own the means of production. One assumes they own the tooling (aside from what may go to BAIC). But what is the tooling (for the 9-3 line) worth once the doors are closed? Is it simply destroyed? Then there are the external parts companies that still have to make parts for existing cars, presumably under some license from GM. So in some ways there is still a pulse, just no new cars.
How much does GM really own of the facilities in Trollhatten, and more importantly, of the minds and skills of the people there?
If Saab is shut down, and the manufacturing side is idle but still intact , can it be bought, maybe for relatively short money, and restarted?
Then there are 1,100 dealers around the world immediately affected. Would they be amenable to a reborn Saab, a phoenix rising from the ashes in the form of a raging griffin? Would any be interested in putting in money to get a piece of the action (and risk) moving forward?
Just stuff that's been running around in my head. The opera could end, the fat lady could sing. But what if there were an encore?
