The key thing to remember is "RELATIVE" when we talk about humidity. Air's capacity to hold water vapor is in relationship to its' temperature. Warm air can hold a lot of water, cool air holds very little. The relative humidity of ambient outdoor air does not change a lot with the seasons. The actual amount of moisture in a given amount of air does vary widely with temperature.
So what to do in this case. Your furnace humidifier is probably the drum type that offers water in a foam filter to the air flow. If the furnace is not heating, not much water will be absorbed. My humidifer uses a electric heating element to literally boil water in the furnace duct. Works great but don't like paying the bill for electric element.
An ultrasonic mist fogger fountain is probably your best bet. It should be near your pellet stove as the warm air convecting from it is ready willing and able to absorb water.
By the way does it not appear the perhaps Al Gore was an optomist ?
